Project Objective and Scope:
This project aims at preparing a revision of the action plan for the Long-stalked Pondweed (Potamogeton praelongus). The action plan for this critically endangered species has been underway since 2003. The current action plan is obsolete and was not prepared under the applicable Guidelines. The revision of the action plan is based on an assessment of the action plan for 2003–2014.
The project consists of reviewing the original action plan. The revised plan is prepared in accordance with the Guidelines for the Preparation of Action Plans for Endangered Plant Species (Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic and NCA CR, 2014: Concept of Action Plans and Management Plans for Endangered Animal and Plant Species in the Czech Republic). The chapter entitled “Basic Information for the Performance of an Action Plan” contains new facts pertaining to the species, collected during the performance of the action plan, such as information about the biology of germination. The chapter entitled “Plan of Measures of the Action Plan” was completely reworked and will be used as the basis to perform the action plan in the following years.
The revision was done by the long-term executive of the plan, RNDr. Romana Prausova, Ph.D. After an internal review, the draft was submitted for review to two external experts in the branch. Comments from the reviewers were subsequently addressed and suggestions for changes were incorporated into the finished text of the action plan. A summary of the revised text of the action plan for Long-stalked Pondweed is available for download here.
An introductory and a concluding seminar took place as part of required project publicity. Also several promotional materials were created – specifically thematic pairs and coasters. More information about project implementation is available in section with project news.
