Project Objective and Scope:

This project is focused on the expansion of knowledge on the fitness of species of European importance, or the communities which they are part of, within the areas of the Natura 2000 system. It focuses especially on ground monitoring and data collection in the areas of the Natura 2000 system, focusing on all the systematic groups of plants and animals. Knowledge of the occurrence and fitness of species important from the viewpoint of conservation is necessary to adopt any decision in these areas. The knowledge thus obtained will be used to conceive management measures to guarantee good fitness of the subject of conservation. The project also includes promotion of the Natura 2000 system and the species which it protects.

Project Activities:

Nature Conservation Agency of the Czech Republic (NCA CR)

  • Field survey of bryophytes of European importance in the Natura 2000 system
  • Fitness of selected vascular plants in selected Locations of European Importance
  • Detailed identification of populations of beetles of European importance in selected Locations of European Importance
  • Fitness of populations of the Asp (Aspius aspius) and the Spined Loach (Cobitis taenia) in Locations of European Importance – valley reservoirs
  • Field survey of animal species of European importance in areas with suitable sites in the Natura 2000 system
  • Effectiveness assessment of the management of grassland at sites within the Natura 2000 system

Česká společnost ornitologická (Czech Ornithological Association),

  • Identification of the current relative and absolute numbers of bird species in each special protection area

Czech Agricultural University

  • Identification of the spatial occurrence of nesting bird species in special protection areas
  • Monitoring of water birds in the locations within the Natura 2000 system outside the nesting period
  • Monitoring of the numbers and reproduction rate of nesting populations of water birds in the Czech Republic
  • Biotope requirements of the Boreal Owl (Aegolius funereus) in locations within the Natura 2000 system
  • Monitoring of the incidence of chytridiomycosis in amphibians of European importance in Locations of European Importance
